Pilar

A replica of Ernest Hemingway's 38' 1934 sport fishing boat

If you dream of a boating related business in a year-round warm climate, or you want a distinctive head-turning vessel, "Pilar" could be your answer.

Pilar (shown above) is a replica of Ernest Hemingway’s famous 1934 38' Wheeler sportfishing boat. Every detail of the original boat located in a museum in Cuba has been incorporated into Pilar after extensive research.  All of the restoration work and custom deck conversion design, including “Hemingway’s flying bridge”, was done over a two year period by Walt Schulz and Shannon Boat Company, renowned for wood boat restoration. The hull was extensively rebuilt with new frames, planks, fastenings, etc., and then the underwater portion of the hull was  cold molded with diagonal layers of cedar set in epoxy with two layers of epoxy saturated e-glass for abrasion resistance. The goal was to have a boat that was impervious to worm attack in southern climates and maintenance free for many years under heavy use. The varnished cabin sides were coated with multiple coats of Awlgrip Clear Coating for UV protection. All diesel engines, tanks, electric, pumps, plumbing, electronics, reverse cycle air/heat, refrigeration, microwave, etc. are new. Pilar is a fully accessible vessel.

Proceeds will go to The Shannon River Marine Heritage Foundation, which is a non-profit charitable organization founded to give veterans and others with disabilities the opportunity to participate and enjoy the therapeutic benefits of yachting.
